Hi, I’m Nate Huyser. I suffer from Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. My illnesses are severe and could have cost me my life. I have been admitted to psychiatric hospitals on four separate occasions. These illnesses have caused intense suffering and this Substack is one of the ways I am making meaning out of it. Writing allows me to express what I’ve been through and am going through. I hate mental illness, but I also do find it fascinating. Mental illness raises so many questions about what it even means to be human. I want to explore these questions.

Are you a sufferer from mental illness, like me? Supporter of a friend or family member with mental illness? A mental health professional? Interested in the interplay of neuroscience, psychology, and religion? However you ended up here, I’m glad you made it. I want to explore the workings of the mind and I hope you’ll join me as we learn together.
